Lifting Table
Having worked out that both Stumpy and Midge will be around 3cwt (150kg) when complete I recognised the need to find a way to move them around the workshop, up to and down from the workbench and into and out of the trailer and/or car.
There are many lifting tables on the market, but most use the same principle of a scissors action. This is the type that I intend to follow. Having looked at the one at Donington, I thought that I would have a go at making my own. This page will chart my story.....
Materials
From my local steel merchant (Devizes Steel) I ordered channel and bar to make the basics of the table. I realised once it had been delivered that the ones I had seen previously used channel that had been folded from strip, the material I had purchased was channel that had been rolled. There are two main differences, firstly in the weight - mine is a LOT heavier, secondly in the section, the rolled channel has a rounded inner edge, not good for running wheels along. So the first job was to mill a square corner on one inside edge on the four bearing surfaces. So far, that's as far as I've got!
